Arrest and arraignment made on 1st traffic fatality of the year for Grand Bahama

Freeport,  Bahamas - This morning, Friday 29th January, 2010,  ENTADOR MUNNINGS DOB 14th September, 1980 of South Bahamia, Freeport, was arrested and arraigned before Magistrate Andrew Forbes in Magistrate's Court No. 2 on the charges of:
 
1  Killing in the Course of Dangerous Driving
2  Driving a motor vehicle in excess of the speed limit and
3  Driving a motor vehicle without a valid driver's license.
 
The matter was adjourned to 11th June, 2010 for trial and he was granted bail in the amount of $2,000.

These charges are in relation to the First Traffic Fatality for the year, 2010. 


Original report from January 27th:

At 10am on Tuesday, January 26th 2010, the Police Traffic Officers in Freeport responded to a traffic accident report on Queens Highway.  The officers who responded reported that a male age 29 years of Freeport was driving a Maxima car west on Queens Highway in the area of West Sunrise Highway when a male and a female on a motorcycle were traveling east on Queens Highway and they attempted to negotiate a U-turn across the pathway of the Maxima which resulted in a collision. 

The rider and passenger (both tourists) were knocked from the motorcycle, receiving injuries for which they were transported to the Accident and Emergency Section of the Rand Memorial Hospital.  The riders who were passengers on a Norweigan Cruise were given medical services at the named hospital.  At 1:40pm, the female, age 64 years, succombed to her injuries and the male, age 63 years, was treated and detained.  Investigations are being continued by officers at the Police Traffic Department.

CAUTION:  THIS IS THE WEEKEND THE POLICE ARE ENCOURAGING THE MOTORING PUBLIC TO ADHERE TO THE TRAFFIC LAWS AND IN PARTICULAR TO SLOW DOWN AND DRIVE TO ARRIVE ALIVE - CERTAINLY CONSIDERATION MUST BE GIVEN TO OTHER ROAD USERS.  PERSONS FOUND IN BREACH OF THE ROAD TRAFFIC LAWS WILL BE PROSECUTED ACCORDING TO THE LAW.
