Nassau, Bahamas - The following is a statement submitted by the Rolle family on January 5, 2015:

The family of the late Sgt. 1475 Wayne Rolle would like to express our profound gratitude for the support and prayers given to the family during his recent passing. His tragic death sent shock waves through our family, his colleagues, friends, and community. We all know and appreciate that in life, death is certain; however, we never expected our loved one to be a murder statistic. The way he died was senseless and cruel and is particularly difficult for his three children, who still grapple and will continue to grapple with this tragedy in the weeks, months, and years ahead.

We would like to thank the Commissioner of Police Mr. Elliston Greenslade, his senior command, particularly Chief Supt. Paul Rolle, Supt B.K. Bonamy and all of the hard working men and women of the Royal Police Force for their commitment and service to this country in general and Sgt. 1475 Rolle’s case in particular. Despite the many rumors and theories surrounding the death of Sgt. 1475 Rolle, we are satisfied with the Police’s investigation, its progress, and the resources behind this investigation to ensure that the persons who are responsible for this callous act is brought to justice.

We cannot understand or make sense of this situation but we place our hands and trust in God’s hand to help get us through the days ahead. We want the persons who are responsible for Sgt. 1475 Rolle’s death to know that we have forgiven them and pray that God would touch their hearts and minds.

We grieve with other families who have lost loved ones to senseless acts of violence and admonish the Bahamian public to renew its commitment to stamping out crime in every facet of our communities. Let us unite with the Police Force to accomplish a common goal; to create a safer and more secure Bahamas where all of us can work, live, and play.

Again we wish to thank all persons who have shared with us during this time by way of calls, visits, flowers, and prayers. We request your continued prayers, especially for the children of the late Sgt. 1475 Rolle.
