On February 26, 1942 a bouncing baby
boy was born in Nassau to Salatheal “Teddy” and Elizabeth Jennie
Rahming (both deceased). He was their first born. They named him Garth
Anthony. He was affectionately called “Waldo” by his close
friends.
At an early age he attended Smith Point
Private School located at the time on Fort Hill. Upon completion he
attended St. Augustine All Boys School at that time located in Fox Hill.
Later, Garth and younger brother Rupert
went on to attend Northwestern Senior High School in Miami Florida.
While at Northwestern he excelled in a number of sporting events that
included track, football, basketball, baseball and he won the table
Tennis Championship in 1959. After graduation from Northwestern, he
attended Miami-Dade Junior College for two years. After the war in Vietnam
broke out in the early 1960’s his mother decided it was time for him
and his brother to return home.
Upon his return, Garth briefly worked
at Bahamasair, and then went on to work with the Immigration Department
as one of their original recruits. He remained there for 35 years retiring
as Superintendent and second-in-charge under Vernon Burrows in the Freeport
Office. After retiring from Immigration he went on to work at the companies,
Rags to Riches and then Care Maintenance as a consultant.
After a long illness Garth passed away
on Friday April 8th, 2011. He was 69 years old.
May he rest in peace.
He is survived by his only son: Harry

Mr. Harry Rahming
Freeport,Grand Bahama
By Hand
Dear Mr. Rahming,
It is with deep regret that condolences are extended on behalf of the Ministry of Tourism & Aviation and our industry partners as you mourn the passing
of your late father, and former Superintendent of Immigration, Mr. Garth Rahming.
Mr. Rahming served as Chairman of the Welcome and Departure Committee,
a voluntary group of public and private sector industry partners appointed
by the Grand Bahama Island Tourism Board, to facilitate the delivery of satisfactory vacation experiences at the Airport and the Harbour, on Grand
Bahama Island. Among the many accomplishments during Mr. Rahming’s
leadership,
of special note was the Committee’s success in bringing
about an orderly process
the disembarkation visitors arriving by sea.
He held the position for several years until the date
of his
retirement from the Department of Immigration, in 2002.
The result of Mr. Rahming’s work is well noted and you along with the
other surviving members of his family should be proud of the distinguished service rendered to his country and his personal accomplishments along
the way.
May his soul and the souls of all the dearly departed rest in peace. I shall remain,
Respectfully yours,
Vincent V. Vanderpool-Wallace
Minister of Tourism & Aviation
