It is with great sadness that I have only just learned of the passing of Mr. Alan Holland Briggs in Douglas, Isle of Man, England, on 6th April, 2013 at age 89 years.

Mr. Briggs an English Chartered Accountant came to Nassau with his wife Jean in 1956 and was employed by the firm of Andreae and Fingland, which later became Price Waterhouse. He became a Partner in Andreae and Fingland in 1960 and in Price Waterhouse in 1963. The firm of Andreae and Fingland was founded by Mr. Philip William Andreae and Mr. Edward Rhodes Fingland.

Mr. Edward Fingland, and Mr. Alan Briggs attended Mill Hill school in Yorkshire, England.

Mr & Mrs Briggs were Methodist, and were members of Trinity Methodist Church. Mrs. Briggs was a member of the choir and also Editor of the Church’s newsletter, when Rev. Godfrey Johns was Minister at Trinity.

Mr. Briggs lived a quiet life in Nassau. He was a very quiet gentleman, extremely pleasant and a very caring person.

Mr. Briggs retired from Price Waterhouse in 1972, and he and Mrs. Briggs returned to England and settled in the Isle of Man.

Mr. Briggs had a great love and passion for trains, and spent a lot of time travelling around on them, and also researching their history, and that of the various railways.

Some years after his return to Douglas, Isle of Man, he was predeceased by his wife Jean in the mid 1990's. He spent his remaining years in Douglas.

Mr. Briggs is fondly remembered by a number of persons in the Bahamas who worked with him at Price Waterhouse. They are : Graham Cooper, Ronald Atkinson, Allan Bates, Gordon Wilde, Barry Nottage, Dorothea Kent formerly Wells, Ivy Gates, Peter & Sheila Ashton formerly Sheila Bethel, Eleanor Pinder, William & Penny Hogg formerly Kemp, Jackie Roberts, Beryl Dillett, Dave Roberts, Jean Hivert, Marie Strachan, Lillian Newbold, Estermae Bodie and T. Maitland Cates.

Also Rev. Charles Sweeting, and members of Trinity Methodist Church, Judy Grindrod, David Fingland and Richard Harris.
