Press Statement by Hon. Dr. Hubert A. Minnis Leader Free National Movement passing of Edwin “Vikey” Brown, J.P., Meritorious Council Member, Former Senator and Candidate:

It is with profound regret and sadness that we in the Free National Movement today mourn the passing of Edwin “Vikey” Brown, J.P., Meritorious Council Member (MCM), former Senator and candidate.

On behalf of our Parliamentarians, Executives, Officers, Meritorious Council Members, Council Members and supporters, we offer our heartfelt and deepest sympathy to Mr. Brown’s daughter, Erin and son, Ambrose and his family for their loss.

Edwin “Vikey” Brown, MCM, was a founding member of our great party in 1971 after immediately joining the brave and courageous Dissident Eight in 1970. He worked tirelessly and steadfastly since then for the party and for the good of the nation until recently when he was disadvantaged by failing health. He played a pivotal and instrumental role in the formation of the then Torchbearers Association in 1971.

He was among the first group of persons to be awarded the highest honour that the party can bestow on a member, Meritorious Council Member (MCM). He was a candidate for the party on two occasions and served our nation well as a Senator.

Vikey, as we affectionately called him, over the decades gave so much of himself to our party and our nation serving as a candidate twice, FNM National Campaign Co-Ordinator, Senior Party Officer and Senator. He believed in the principles of the FNM -- good governance, democracy, accountability and transparency -- and he believed in the Bahamas. He was good-natured, friendly and represented the best of our Bahamas. He was loved by many and will be missed, but he will be long remembered.

The Free National Movement, its officers and supporters are exceedingly grateful for his unselfish and exemplary service to our party and the nation. We thank God for his example, his life and his legacy.

May he rest in peace.
