The event kicked off with an opening ceremony to the theme of “Moving Forward With Our Partners” and continued Thursday with industry updates that included everything from topics of travel trends of millennials, hotel debt, equity and creativity to sessions about the “The Power Of The Purse” and how women are shaping and influencing the hospitality industry.

Prime Minister of The Bahamas Perry Christie and renowned motivational speaker Les Brown are expected to give remarks at the three-day event. A host of other regional panelists from the US and the Caribbean are also slated for sessions throughout the summit.

Andy Ingraham - president of the National Association of Black Hotel Owners Operators and Developers (NABHOOD), which organizes the summit- said the summit acted as a good point for those interested in the industry to discuss the progress of the industry and the market trends.

“People are traveling and this is a great opportunity for us to not only form new partnerships but to build the relationships we already do have,” he said.

Several hoteliers walked away with top awards at the Summit & Trade on Thursday, with a 2015 awards ceremony by NABHOOD.  During the ceremony, hotels from around the country were recognized for their efforts in the 2014/2015 with Bahamas-based Dr. Veronica McIver taking home the NABHOOD Emerging Hotel Owner of The Year.
