OF THE COMMONWEALTH OF THE BAHAMAS
 TO JAPAN
ON THE OCCASION OF PRESENTATION OF
 LETTER OF CREDENCE
 AND
LETTER OF RECALL
TO HIS EXCELLENCY AKITAKA SAIKI,
VICE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF JAPAN
MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
TOKYO, JAPAN

THURSDAY, 13TH NOVEMBER 2014

Your Excellency,

It is with great pleasure that I present to you a copy of my Letter of Credence, which will accredit me as Ambassador of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas to Japan.

I also present to you, the Letter of Recall of my Predecessor, Sir Sidney Poitier, who has served graciously in this post during his tenure.

Excellency,

This year is the 2014 CARICOM-Friendship year, which included many cultural events aimed at promoting Japanese cooperation and culture. Recently, The Bahamas hosted its first annual Taste CARICOM-Japan reception.

With the forthcoming convening of the Fourth CARICOM-Japan Ministerial Meeting, The Bahamas looks forward to being a part of the international forum that is focused on the issues of the environment, climate change, the promotion of human security and more importantly, increased dialogues and exchanges between Japan and CARICOM.

Excellency,

Our ties extend even further, as we have partnered politically into the International Community such as the United Nations.

Moreover, The Bahamas congratulates Japan on its successful re-election to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and will continue to support Japan in its candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.

The Bahamas also commends Japan for its continued regional support in hosting Caribbean Officials in Tokyo, where our contributions to the Post 2015 Development Agenda can take precedence.

As low-lying coastal island states, The Bahamas and Japan share a stark commitment, both locally and internationally, in advancing policy aimed at eliminating climate change, which, if left unabated, can harm the very fabric and existence of our societies.

Excellency,

Kindly convey to His Imperial Majesty Emperor Akihito,  Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and to the Government and people of Japan, the most heartfelt and sincere sentiments from myself, my Government and the People of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, for continued cooperation and amicable relations.
