WASHINGTON, D.C. - His Excellency Dr. Eugene Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, met with his Mexican counterpart, H.E. Eduardo Mora, in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, and discussed a range of potential trade and investment opportunities of mutual benefit to both countries.

Tangible trade and investment opportunities for The Bahamas discussed included electric utility modernization and access to renewable energy technology, agricultural export and import, and the infrastructural comparative advantages of Freeport, Grand Bahama, for industry.

The Ambassadors also discussed areas of technical cooperation in the area of tourism, where Mexico could provide assistance in the refining of The Bahamas patrimonial and all-inclusive tourism project and The Bahamas could offer assistance regarding high end hospitality management. Given the similar concerns both countries faced regarding transnational organized crime, enhanced national security cooperation was also identified as an area meriting further collaboration.

Ambassador Newry extended thanks to the Government of Mexico for the continued provision of technical assistance in the form of scholarships and professional short courses which were of immense benefit to The Bahamas and affirmed The Bahamian Government’s welcoming of any assistance to increase the bilingualism of the Bahamian workforce.

Ambassador Mora advised that his Embassy would provide any assistance necessary to facilitate the ongoing process of Ambassador Newry seeking accreditation for non-resident representation to the Government of Mexico.

Mexican Ambassador Mora was accompanied by North American Director of ProMexico Flavio Miron, Senior Assistant Luvia Ponce and Executive Assistant Daniela Zarebski. Ambassador Newry was accompanied by Deputy Chief of Mission Chet Neymour, Second Secretary Krissy Hanna and Third Secretary Mikhail Bullard.
