NEW YORK - His Excellency Dr. Elliston Rahming, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of The Bahamas to the United Nations and the Organization of American States (OAS)  and Vice President of the 71st Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, participated in a tribute to outgoing Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon and the administration of oath of office to Secretary-General-designate António Guterres on Monday, October 12, 2016.

The General Assembly paid homage to Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s exceptional contribution to international peace and security during his 10-year leadership, as he “guided the United Nations through a period of significant global change” and stood firm in his headship “to ensure the United Nations was always a resolute force for good”.

The oath was administered before the General Assembly and in the presence of the heads of the Organisation’s major bodies: the Security Council, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and the Trusteeship Council. Mr. Guterres will take the helm of the world body on January 1, 2017.

Ambassador Rahming was invited on stage, in his capacity as Vice President of the General Assembly, to witness the ceremony along with other select dignitaries and to share in a formal introduction and welcome to Mr. Guterres.
