ATLANTA, GEORGIA - When former theater child actor Damario Major left Florida to relocate to Atlanta, he encountered a few struggles in his search for roles as a newcomer in the industry. While he admits there were a few websites and social media pages that promise casting opportunities, he says he wants to offer something different propel budding talents to the next level.

Major has spent the past few months networking with heavy hitters and working red carpets in Los Angeles and it’s paying off. The launch has been generating a huge buzz in the Atlanta film, television and reality show networks with several familiar faces confirming they will be in attendance. It’s certainly a progression for the actor turned entrepreneur, who worked on Selma.

“Over two years ago, I began the journey with my team to create a website/app that enables entertainers to be able to connect, chat and book auditions,” he explained. “The road wasn't easy, there were days that I felt like my dream would never be a reality, but thanks to my ride or die family, friends-mentors and my team it's coming to fruition!”

Among those who encouraged him, is Trai Byers, best known as Andre` Lyons from breakout hit show Empire.

“One thing Trai encouraged me was to educate myself on this industry,” says Major. “He told me to educate myself on the business, the history of the business, the people who are doing it, how they are doing it, and the rest. And I have not only attempted to educate myself, but also try to find avenues in which to make it a bit easier for others to navigate.”

Born to a Jamaican mother and Bahamian father, Major added that participating in activities during June, national Caribbean Heritage Month in the USA, has also inspired him to reach out to his Caribbean counterparts to encourage them to develop their own industries. Immediately following his launch, Major confirmed that he will be back in The Bahamas to scout for his next project.

“Beyond BookTheGig, I’m also working on several ventures in The Bahamas and Jamaica to start,” he revealed. “When you think of people like Sir Sidney Poitier, Lorraine Toussaint and other Caribbean people who have done exceptionally well in the acting industry, you can’t help but want to give back.”

. Major’s BookTheGig launch party and mix and mingle with industry professionals takes place at the Bugalou Lounge in Atlanta, Georgia from 6pm to 10pm on Thursday, July 9, 2015. For more information, visit www.bookthegig.com
