Bahamas Embassy Consular Annex Hosts 
Dinner For Returning Bahamian Students

WASHINGTON, D.C. - A number of Bahamian college and university students in the Washington, D.C. area who recently returned for the fall semester at their respective institutions of higher learning were guests of Mrs. Paulette Zonicle, Bahamas Consul General to Washington, D.C., at her residence in Fort Washington Maryland, on Friday night, October 9, 2015.

Twenty-five students responded to invitations sent by the Bahamas Embassy Consular Annex for its “Fall College Forum and Dinner” and they were treated to a lavish dinner featuring traditional Bahamian culinary fares such as peas and rice, fried and baked fish, fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, cabbage slaw and a variety of desserts.

In her welcoming remarks, Consul General said she conceived the idea of having an annual forum for returning students not only to welcome them back and to interact socially, but also to encourage them to study hard and “make your parents proud of your accomplishments.”

She said the initiative was also aimed maintaining a dialogue with the students and keeping them abreast of the educational policies of The Bahamas Government and opportunities that are available to them.

H.E. Dr. Eugene Newry, Bahamas Ambassador to the United States, also delivered welcome remarks and likewise encouraged the students to diligently apply themselves to their studies and prepare themselves to return to The Bahamas after they graduate to continue to help build a better Bahamas.

The forum also featured two guest speakers, Dr. Lincoln Marshall, a Bahamian professor at the University of Missouri, and Mr. Ken Tucker, a Bahamian author, life coach and leadership expert.
