Bahamas Environment Minister in Abu Dhabi to speak at IRENA

Abu Dhabi, UEA - Minister of the Environment and Housing, Hon. Kenred Dorsett, left the country this past Friday for Abu Dhabi to participate in meetings of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). Today, Minister Dorsett attended pre-Council Meetings at IRENA Headquarters. At this meeting the reports of the Administration and Finance Committee and the Programme and Strategy Committee were discussed.

The Bahamas was elected as a member of the IRENA Council and represents CARICOM for 2016.

Council members will address the topic of "Unlocking Renewables Investment: The Role of Risk Mitigation and Structured Finance" in the afternoon session and Minister Dorsett is expected to attend a reception on the occasion of IRENA's 5th Anniversary in the evening.

Dorsett said "IRENA is advancing programs in island nations throughout the world and my Ministry looks forward to the completion of their renewables readiness assessment of the Bahamas and the SIDS Lighthouse Initiative".

The meeting of the Council will begin on the 24th May.
