OTTAWA, Canada – The Bahamas High Commission is pleased to advise the Bahamian public that it is re-introducing Passport Clinics in Canada. The first clinic will be held at the Bahamas Tourism Office located at 212-2150 Islington Avenue, St. Toronto, Ontario M9P 3V4 Canada. The Passport clinic in Toronto will be held from 21-22 July, 2014 (Islington and Monogram Place). Passport clinics are also planned for Eastern and Western Canada. The High Commission will announce the dates and locations once confirmed. These clinics will be used to facilitate more passport applications for applicants who reside in cities outside of Ottawa, Ontario. The clinics are also in tune with the 24 November 2015 deadline for the replacement of handwritten passports with electronic passports as outlined by the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Standard 3.10.1 in Annex 9 – Facilitation.

The 24 November 2015 deadline ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices, which refers to non-machine readable passports, states that passports issued after 24 November 2005 and which are not machine readable, Contracting States (of which the Bahamas is a member) must ensure the expiration date falls before 24 November 2015. In essence, all handwritten passports will be made obsolete by 24 November 2015.

To book an appointment to attend the Toronto Passport Clinic please contact The Bahamas High Commission at 613-232-1724. Individuals will need to ensure that they arrive to the passport clinic with a prepaid/self-addressed courier envelope that will facilitate the transport of their newly issued passports to their home address.
