President of the Bahamas China Friendship Association Anthony Capron and Manuel Ruiz were delegates to the 5th China-Latin America and Caribbean Region People-to-People Friendship Forum, Sept. 15-17, in Hangzhou, China.

The 48 delegates to the forum came from 20 countries in Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

Included among the opening speakers was Mr. Rodney Williams, Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda and honorary chairman of the Antigua and Barbuda China Friendship Association. His wife, Sandra Williams, is the president of the recently organized association.

Keynote speaker for the occasion was Yin Hengmin, Special representative of the Chinese government for Latin America and Caribbean Affairs. He spoke primarily on the overall cooperation between China, Latin America and the Caribbean.

Mr. Yin expressly welcomed the delegates, telling them how important and beneficial the CLAC is to people-to-people friendship diplomacy for China, and the wider world. He wished the forum well and success in the election of a new board.

Eric Becker, president of the Venezuela China Friendship Association, was voted in as the new president of the Federation, replacing Annette Vial of Panama. The new vice president for the Caribbean is Dominique Bazin from Haiti, taking over from Philip Simon of The Bahamas.

Following the closed of the forum, the delegates toured the fiberglass production plant of the Jushi Group, in the city of Jiaxing. They also visited the Wuzhen Health Eco-Park and given the rundown on the operation of the Zhejiang YADA International Rehabilitation Hospital.

The Federation delegates were also given a tour of the Old City of Wuzhen, where they were transported by boat through the waterways.

The 6th Forum is scheduled for 2017 in Guatemala.
