High School Scholars Joined International Gathering of Tomorrow’s Leaders

WASHINGTON, DC - Outstanding students from around the world took part in a unique global leadership development experience, the 2014 Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC): Becoming Leaders of Change, an Envision program Conference sessions took place in the United States, as young scholars built on global leadership skills and strategies that are critical for success in the 21st century.

At the 10-day conference, students interacted with key leaders who influence global politics, finance, culture and diplomacy. Thought provoking simulations were coupled with opportunities to collaborate with peers from around the world, preparing students with the critical leadership skills needed to resolve global conflicts.

Most students who attended the conference were nominated by teachers and guidance counselors based on their academic performance and leadership potential. Paris Welcome a Kingsway Academy student entering eleventh grade, represented the Bahamas and her school along with Ashley Webb and Christia Fowler members of the Class of 2015. Paris said, “The most valuable part of my experience was getting to know new people from all around the world and making life long relationships.”

“It is imperative that today’s students know how to compete and cooperate on a global scale,” said Marguerite Regan, Ph.D., the Dean of Academic Affairs for the Global Young Leaders Conference. “When diverse ideas and points of view are shared, the true results of the conference are realized.” Scholars who attended GYLC in the United States traveled to Washington, DC and New York City, visited international embassies and participated in Global Issues Workshops. Activities culminated in the Global Summit Simulation, challenging students to debate, negotiate, and build coalitions to resolve emerging global challenges.
