NASSAU, Bahamas - John S. Bain, the Bahamas’ UHY Managing Partner has earned Diplomate status with the American Board of Forensic Examiners by the American College of Forensic Examiners Institute (ACFEI).  Diplomate Status is a high honor bestowed by the ACFEI, and is reserved only for those members that have made significant professional achievements and contributions to the field of forensic sciences.

In order to qualify, a special advisory board of forensic accounting professionals at the ACFEI reviews recently completed forensic reports, or court transcripts to ensure that the conclusions withstands scientific rigor.  Diplomates are leaders in their forensic science disciplines and must complete rigorous continuing education requirements in their respective fields.

“I am humbled by the offer of the ACFEI to represent them at the Diplomate level.  The ACFEI is no doubt, the leading organization for forensic professionals.  I am happy to be one of the few Bahamians who have chosen to turn to the ACFEI to put a stamp of approval in the emerging field of forensic accounting,” said Bain. “With the rapidly expanding Bahamian economy and as Bahamians becoming more litigious, it is great to be a part of an organization like the ACFEI to keep on top of new developments and to make my personal contributions to the field of forensic science.”

The Chairman of the American Forensic Accounting Board, Dr. Scott McHone, has also invited Mr. Bain to sit on a special panel to evaluate the qualifying examinations for certified forensic accountants, to which he happily accepted.

Bain is a Managing Partner at UHY Bain & Associates.  He has recently taken a leave of absence as a lecturer in money laundering strategies at the Bahamas Institute of Financial Services to pursue short-term personal goals.  This year will mark Bain’s twenty-seven years of post-qualifying experience as a professional accountant, after qualifying with the ACCA in 1987.  In 2007, the ACCA bestowed Bain with its highest honor of a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work in anti-money laundering and contributions for the development of the accounting profession in The Bahamas.  Currently, UHY Bain & Associates are involved with the measurement of damages, litigation support, insurance claims analysis, and financial fraud investigation.  Recent cases involve fraud investigations, tracing of misplaced assets, and the forensic review of public and private financial departments.  Recently, the firm has added computer security, computer audits, and digital forensics to its areas of specialization.

The ACFEI is the world’s largest association of forensic science professionals, and part of its mission is to recognize the experience and education of professionals dedicated to the forensic sciences.  It is comprised of forensic professionals actively engaged in such fields as accounting, medicine, nursing, psychology, criminology, dentistry, toxicology, document examination, accident reconstruction, crime science reconstruction, criminal investigation, engineering, polygraph analysis, risk analysis, voice identification, and others.

ACFEI members include many of the most prominent forensic science professionals in the world, including members from the IRS, the US Homeland Security, and the FBI.
