C&W Communications won the coveted Best Exhibition Title at CANTO 2019

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad – C&W Communications (C&W) was awarded Best Booth at the 35th Annual CANTO Conference in Trinidad and Tobago. The award is based on several criteria including visual impact, organisation of exhibition material, availability of information, quality of staff, overall impression, and also includes votes from the conference attendees. The 4-day Conference at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, was held under the theme ‘Transitioning to a Digital Region – Opportunities & Challenges’ ended with the official Closing Cocktail on Wednesday, July 24th, 2019.

On the final day of the conference, C&W Communications’ executives continued to contribute to a range of important debates.

‘Today we will focus on regulating content. It is critical because we operate in a digital environment where customers have a wide range of services from which to choose’ said Opal Neil, Senior Manager, Regulatory Affairs, C&W Communications as she introduced the session – The Regulation of Content in the Digital Age – Are Current Regulatory Approaches Working? Members of the panel included Karlene Salmon, Assistant Executive Director, Broadcasting Commission of Jamaica; Dr. Allyson Leacock, Chairman, Barbados Broadcasting Authority; and Jerry George, ICT Media Consultant.

Heather Wallen-Byran, Director – BCM Safety & Security, C&W Communications weighed in on the discussions on Disaster Risk Management with Claudia Giraldo, Public Policy Manager for the Caribbean, Facebook; Tom Sullivan, Federal Communications Commission (FCC); and Shernon Osepa, Internet Society (ISOC).

In the final session for the day, Melesia Sutherland, CANTO Director and C&W Communications executive skilfully led the discussions on the World Radio Conference 2019 (WRC 19) Updates. This, she said, is hosted 'to decide the spectrum that will be made available for development over the next 7 to 10 years'. Her poignant question to the speakers was 'how is the agenda developed and who drives it?' It was noted that connectivity and mobility are two important drivers for the WRC. Panellists included Carmelo Rivera, CITEL; Tom Sullivan, Federal Communications Communication; Veena Rawat, Senior Spectrum Advisor, GSMA; Kirk Sookram, Telecommunications Authority of Trinidad and; and Carlos Flores, NOAA, Dept. of Commerce Radio Frequency Management Office.

Other thematic discussions included Regulating the Digital Economy; Data Protection/Cybersecurity Trends and Predictions; and Delivering a Digital Experience.
