ATLANTA, Georgia -- The Hon. Randy Rolle, Bahamas Consul General to Atlanta, is delighted that his efforts were successful in arranging for singing sensation Fantasia Barrino to meet Rashad Bowe, a young autistic Bahamian who is a huge fan of the former American Idol star, during her recent visit to The Bahamas for a concert.

As The Tribune reported in a feature story earlier this week, Rashad got to meet Fantasia in the VIP lounge of the Lynden Pindling International Airport and “the 18-year-old brought the superstar to tears with an impromptu rendition of her hit single ‘I Believe.’ “

“Rashad attended the ‘Celebration of Love’ concert over the weekend that featured Fantasia alongside R&B singers Ginuwine and Johnny Gill in hopes of meeting the Grammy Award-winning singer,” The Tribune reported. “Unfortunately, Fantasia left the concert shortly after closing out the event with a high-energy performance. However, relentless efforts by his father, Yuri Bowe, and mother, Raynell Bowe, to reach out to Fantasia before she left the country proved fruitful.”

The Tribune noted that Consul General Rolle, “along with the promotion team Fresh Entertainment, granted the Bowe family’s request and made arrangements for Rashad to meet Fantasia before she boarded her flight yesterday.”

Commenting on his role in helping Rashad to meet his “idol,” Consul General Rolle said, “I attended the concert in Nassau Saturday night and was introduced to the father of a special needs child whose only wish was to meet Fantasia, who lives in North Carolina, one of the states that fall under the consulate jurisdiction of the Atlanta Consulate.  I contacted Fantasia and her manager, and they agreed to meet the boy on Monday before she returned to the US.”

Consul General Rolle, however, added that right after Fantasia’s performance, she was “rushed off stage and into her van and taken back to the hotel.”

“The young man was left waiting behind the stage not knowing that she had left,” Consul General Rolle said.  “His grandmother had borrowed the money so that her grandchild could watch the show.  That evening after hearing that the boy could not read or write, but would go on the internet and download Fantasia’s music, I vowed to the family that I would help to make his dreams come through, and I delayed my flight back to Atlanta to keep that promise. ”

Consul General Rolle said that he will follow-up and send a personal thank-you note to Fantasia and her manager.
