Courtesy Call on the Minister of Health by the US Embassy Charge d'Affaires

The Ministry of Health is pleased to announce that Mrs. Usha E. Pitts, the newly appointed United States Chargé d’Affaires paid a courtesy call on the Honourable Renward R. Wells,

M.P., today Thursday, 8th April, 2021, in the Conference Room of the Headquarters at the Ministry of Health.

Present for this auspicious event were Ms. Siobhan Deane, Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Pearl McMillan, Chief Medical Officer and Mr. Todd Sargent, Political Officer at the United States Embassy.

Representatives addressed the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, its global impacts and the continuous effects it has on their respective countries.  The Bahamas took the opportunity to discuss the rollout of the AstraZeneca vaccine in New Providence, Grand Bahama and Eleuthera and its plans to expand to the southern Bahamian islands.  

The Chargé d’Affaires elaborated on the vaccination process in the United States of America and advised of the vaccines used in the country.  She also discussed plans to assist The Bahamas and neighbouring countries with their vaccination exercises given their population sizes. 

Minister Wells expressed that he looked forward to working closely and harmoniously with the new Chargé d’Affaires, and took the opportunity to convey best wishes to Chargé d’Affaires Pitts as she embarked on her tour of duty in The Bahamas.
