Omaha, Nebraska - Jemima’s Playhouse was created by Tyrone Sawyer II, a standout Bahamian track & field athlete, and his wife Jemima. Under the aegis of their company, Aunt Jemima’s Playhouse LLC, the Sawyers have introduced a fun, innovative way to reach children between two and twelve years old, which is widely considered to be the most vital stage of their development. Aunt Jemima’s Playhouse is a cultural children’s program that teaches Geography, Foreign Languages and Music through the use of its unique characters and original songs.

This young vibrant educational company continues to find very strong acceptance from schools along its growth path.  Omaha, Nebraska, is the most recent city that has been added.

Jemima Playhouse has several core strengths.  One of them is its ability to deploy newly-created characters, like Seńor Burro® (the Spanish-speaking donkey) to capture the attention of 2 – 12 year old students, while teaching them through the “cultural appreciation” method.  What looks so easy are often the things that are the most difficult to do.  Even veteran teachers would applaud the ability to entertain and engage hold the attention of a 5 year old student for forty (40) minutes.  This is one of the things that set Jemima’s Playhouse apart.  And this is one of the reasons why Jemima’s Playhouse has a growing list of schools in several cities on a waiting list to be added to its impressive, but exclusive listing of clients.

Jemima's Playhouse thrives on the power of music and the power of the imagination.  “We expanded Jemima’s Playhouse into Omaha in June of 2016, and it has grown at a rapid pace,” said Jemima Sawyer, owner of Jemima’s Playhouse. She added, “The program encourages a love for music, arts, and creativity through cultural appreciation. We have discovered that children learn amazingly through music and song.”

Because of this, Jemima’s Playhouse has been able to establish a strong bond with its students and their parents.  This has happened almost organically.  If you happen to be walking in the food store and over-hear a father or mother humming the tune, “Cool Donkey!” be not amazed.  It is Jemima’ Playhouse at work.  This ground-breaking company - with its music, stories and original characters - has children learning at a tremendous pace.

Founded in Atlanta by Tyrone and Jemima in 2012, Jemima’s Playhouse is quickly sweeping early childcare centers and elementary schools across the nation, teaching children in Georgia, Missouri and Kansas; and is now available in Omaha and Lincoln, Nebraska.

Said Ms. Mindy Olson, Director of Premier Academy in Omaha, “Jemima’s Playhouse brings a fresh learning perspective to our learning center.  The children and teachers love the characters are always singing the songs which promote music, Spanish and French.”

Before Nebraska, Jemima’s Playhouse planted firm roots in Georgia, Kansas and Missouri.  From the beginning, it was readily apparent to one and all that Jemima Playhouse’s teaching methods were not only revolutionary, but effective.  This impact could be directly traced to the “Cultural Appreciation” teaching method.

“What I liked from the beginning,” said Mr. Jay Bryan, Owner of Goddard School, Sandy Springs, Georgia, “is that Jemima’s Playhouse is able to do something fresh and new, outside of the normal teaching experience, while giving our teachers time to rest and re-invigorate themselves.”

Meanwhile, Jemima’s Playhouse continues to build its catalogue of new songs and proprietary characters.  They include: Madame Belle®, the beautiful cow from France, and BahamaMan®, the superhero from The Bahamas, who teaches social responsibility.

When asked about future expansion plans, Tyrone Sawyer, Jr., Owner of Jemima’s Playhouse explained, “We will continue to expand as the new opportunities present themselves.  But we will we continue to maintain the high quality of our existing curriculum by using characters and adding new songs to entertain and engage our students; and thereby build upon our proven cultural appreciation method.”
