JetBlue announced in July 2011 the addition of service between White Plains, NY and Nassau, Bahamas,
to start November 15th.
The new daily flights, to be operated with Embraer E190 jets, will be
the only international service out of Westchester County Airport (HPN),
and JetBlue’s only flight from HPN which does not go to Florida.
JetBlue’s current Westchester route lineup consists of Orlando, West
Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers and Tampa. The airline serves
Nassau nonstop from Boston, New York-JFK, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando.
“JetBlue is excited to provide our Westchester and Fairfield County
customers a simpler and more convenient way to access the Caribbean from
their easy-in, easy-out local airport,” said Dave Barger, CEO of
JetBlue Airways, in a statement. “We’re equally as proud to offer the
only regularly scheduled non-stop service from Westchester to the
Caribbean, and to work with such great partners at the Nassau Paradise
Island Board. Plus, our first flight will be offered just in time for
customers to travel to the Bahamas to see the national champion UConn
Huskies Men’s Basketball team in action as they compete in the Battle 4
Atlantis tournament!”
“JetBlue has been an outstanding partner at our airport and we look
forward to this continuing,” Westchester County Executive Robert P.
Astorino said.
“This addition of nonstop service from Westchester to Nassau
represents the continuing growth of a most successful partnership
between The Bahamas and JetBlue,” said Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace,
Bahamas Minister of Tourism and Aviation. “We believe that success is
owed largely to the wonderful match between JetBlue customers and
Bahamas vacationers and we will continue to look for other such
opportunities to enable travelers to enjoy the culture, cuisine and the
world’s clearest waters of The Bahamas.”
“We are pleased to partner with JetBlue to offer residents of
Westchester County, and nearby Connecticut, the convenience of daily
non-stop service to Nassau Paradise Island, just in time for planning
their holiday travel and escape from winter weather,” said Fred J.
Lounsberry, CEO of the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board. “This new
service will enable travelers to have breakfast at home and lunch on
the beaches of Nassau Paradise Island in the Bahamas.”
