The Bahamas Film & Television Commission ended 2019 with a picture of success as its December trade mission landed film shoots and inquiries for further film business in The Bahamas.

The Commission, a division of the Ministry of Tourism, makes regular calls on filmmakers and production companies through attending trade shows and film festivals. As one of several commissions attending the two-day Focus Location Guide show in London, the Bahamas informed filmmakers about the advantages of conducting film shoots in the islands of The Bahamas.

In addition to production companies that have already decided to film in The Bahamas, the Commission will continue discussions with others that are considering doing parts of television shows and still photo shoots in The Bahamas.

The Bahamas team spoke with Len Evans, a composer of an early Bahamas tourism jingle. Evans now works as an independent film producer. Pictured (from left) are Clarence Rolle, Film Commissioner; Julie Angove-Gariba, public relations representative for The Bahamas in the UK and Evans.

“The goal is always to arrive at a mutually beneficial arrangement for a production company and our location,” said Clarence Rolle, the Bahamas Film Commissioner. “The producers want the ideal location that provides striking scenery and minimal complications. We want to continue to bring business to the country for the people who are employed through film. When they are employed on film projects, eventually their earnings circulate to others in the local economy.”

Rolle said the Bahamas Tourism Office in London and its public relations agency provided invaluable support during the trade show.
