Minister Lloyd concludes Working Visit to Washington DC by chairing Education Authorities meeting and meeting Bahamians in the Diaspora

Washington DC – Hon. Jeffrey Lloyd, Minister of Education, concluded his Working Visit to Washington DC by chairing the Planning Meeting of Authorities of the Inter-American Committee on Education at the Organization of American States on September 28th- 29th, 2017. The meeting focused on crafting a work plan for the Committee for 2017-2019 to prioritize areas of action for education cooperation projects, to concretize opportunities for intersectoral collaboration with other OAS Ministerial processes such as those involving Labour and Science and Technology, to consider prospective funding mechanisms for the work of the Committee and to decide on how the education work at the OAS would be integrated into the agenda of the upcoming Summit of the Americas to be convened in April 2018 in Peru. The Bahamas will transfer chairmanship of the Inter-American Committee on Education to Antigua and Barbuda in 2018.

On September 27th, Minister Lloyd also paid courtesy calls on the OAS Secretary General, H.E. Luis Almagro, and Assistant Secretary General, H.E. Nestor Mendez, where the importance of the human development work of the OAS for The Bahamas was underscored and continued OAS support for national and regional hemispheric efforts in education was assured.

On Friday, 29th September, Minister Lloyd and Minister Sands, who was in Washington DC for PAHO Meetings, hosted a meet and greet with Bahamians in the area at the Embassy Consular Annex where young professionals and students met the Ministers and were apprised of the plans of the new administration for education and health, respectively.
