Bahamas Minister of Health calls on Ambassador Eugene G. Newry

Washington, D.C - The Hon. Perry Gomez, Minister of Health, accompanied by Dr. Glen Beneby, newly appointed Chief Medical Officer, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Eugene G. Newry on Thursday, 2nd October, 2014, at The Bahamas Embassy in Washington, D.C. Also present during the meeting was Mr. Chet Neymour, Deputy Chief of Mission and Ms. Krissy Hanna, Second Secretary.

Minister Gomez is heading The Bahamas delegation to the 53rd Directing Council Meeting of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), which is being convened at the PAHO Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The Meeting, which commenced on 29th September, and is expected to conclude on 3rd October, 2014, has brought together Health Authorities from the region to address a myriad of health related issues and policies. Among the issues discussed during the Meeting were the prevention of obesity in children and adolescents, disabilities and rehabilitation, universal access to health and universal health coverage, progress achieved in the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases, as well as the elimination of neglected diseases and other poverty related infections.

The Bahamas currently serves as a member of the Executive Committee of PAHO.
