New York, NY/Nygard Cay, Bahamas - Bahamian resident, Peter Nygård who owns North America's leading women's fashion house ( Nygård Collection, Alia, Tan Jay, Bianca Nygard lines) has remained unscathed during the economic downturn, reporting the HIGHEST sales to date in the company's 40 year history.

"Quite simply, we have decided not to join the recession, our increase is over 25%," offers Nygård 's inspirational founder and chairman, Peter Nygård. "We have seen this type of thing numerous times over the years, and we are ideally suited for this environment. In fact, this is where we excel."

The Bahamas Weekly News Team visited Peter Nygard earlier this year at his luxurious one-of-a-kind home at Nygård Cay at the tip of Lyford Cay in New Providence for an exclusive interview.  In this video we also take you to the streets of New York, and in front of his new flagship store set to open in November 2009 in Times Square. 

In this video Nygård goes over the secrets of his success, much of which is based on their use of the latest technology; an area his company is leading the way in.

Nygård is in expansion mode. With its long-time partnership with Dillard's booming, the company's first ever US flagship store opening in November 2009 and Nygård World Headquarters set to open in 2010 in the heart of Times Square,  Nygård is a name you'll be hearing a lot of in the near future. "For both the young and experienced Nygård Associates," exclaims Nygård, "there has truly never been a more exciting time."

Nygård International is a privately owned company and has grown to become one of the most successful apparel manufacturers in North America. It has grown to be the number one women’s apparel manufacturer in Canada and number three in North America. The company was founded in 1967 and expanded into the United States in 1978. With its new World Headquarters located in New York City's Times Square, Nygård also has complete design, production and distribution facilities in Winnipeg and Los Angeles, sales and marketing offices throughout Canada and the US, and extensive operations throughout the Orient and Mexico. Nygård International is expected to exceed $1 billion in sales this year.




Peter Nygård received a lifetime achievement award at Bahamas Fashion Week in 2008.
