Prime Minister of The Bahamas Keynote Speaker at African American Hotel Ownership Summit

Miami, FL - July 29th, 2016 -The Right Honorable Perry G. Christie, Prime Minister and Minister of Finance for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, was a keynote speaker at The 20th Annual International African American Hotel Ownership and Investment Summit and Trade Show, under the theme, "Changing the Hospitality Landscape With our Partners," at the Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay Hotel, Miami, Florida, July 27th-29th, 2016.

In his remarks to summit attendees, the Prime Minister briefly summarized some of the reasons for The Bahamas being a great choice for investment including its great health system, the wide variety of choices of Islands and the diversity of attractions and adventures. He also shared that the country is continually exploring other areas of tourism for visitors to have different experiences as they enjoy their vacation in The Bahamas.

Prime Minister Christie noted that investors are finding The Bahamas ideal and pointed out some of the top tiered properties in the Bahama Islands such as the Genting’s Resorts World Bimini, on Bimini Island; Winding Bay and Bakers Bay in Abaco; Sandals Resort and February Point in Exuma; Lyford Cay and Albany in Nassau and even the renowned Atlantis on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas. The Prime Minister further spoke about the industries in Grand Bahama including the Petroleum and Pharmaceutical facilities and the shipyard.

The leader of The Bahamas also boasted that The Bahamas is looking at a National Health Care Program for the country. He said that the U.S. talks about "Obama Care," but in The Bahamas there will be "Bahama Care." He also waxed lyrically of the beauty of his country and described the beautiful white sands on the beaches of The Bahamas as "pulsating."

Attendees at the summit included hospitality industry executives, hotel owners and investors, developers, hospitality operators and emerging leaders, industry vendors, franchise brands, country leaders, tourism and government officials, business professionals, industry consultants, bankers and financial experts, legal authorities, college/university professors and students.

The Islands of The Bahamas was one of the many exhibitors at the summit and Trade Show, and Director for The Bahamas African American Market, Mr. Linville Johnson said that The Bahamas being at the summit was key. He said that the attendance of top hotel and corporate executives gave The Bahamas the opportunity to network and encourage groups and individual tourists as well as African American investors to The Bahamas.

The Prime Minister who has been the guest speaker at the summit before, was joined by his Minister of State for investments, The Honorable Khaalis E. Rolle. Other country leaders from the Caribbean in attendance at the event included the Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, Ed Bartlett as well as Ingrid-Irania Arrindel, Minister of Tourism and Economic Affairs, Saint Marteen.

As a part of its annual event, NABHOOD also provides awards in a number of areas including an Outstanding Hotelier Award, that was won this year, by Bahamian entrepreneur and hotel owner, Dr. Veronica Williams McIver, Operator of the Ocean's West Boutique Hotel, Nassau, Bahamas.

Founder/President and CEO of NABHOOD, Andy Ingraham shared that "the organization's mission is to increase the number of African Americans developing, managing, operating and owning hotels, increase vendor opportunities and executive level jobs for minorities; thereby creating wealth within the African American community."

The Greater Miami Conventions and Visitors Bureau is a partner and supporter of the Annual Summit and Trade Show.
