MIAMI FL – The Miami Herald Media Company (MHMC) announced that effective August 4th, Samuel A. Brown will assume the role of Vice President of Advertising.  He succeeds Alexandra Villoch, who was promoted to President and Publisher in April.

Brown brings more than 20 years of advertising sales, digital strategy, marketing and business development experience to his new role.  He most recently served as the vice president of digital solutions for the Northeast Ohio Media Group, where he oversaw digital strategy and revenue at The Plain Dealer, Sun News and cleveland.com, as well as leading multimedia recruitment and entertainment sales teams and advertising operations.

Brown was also vice president of regional sales and digital services with the Houston Chronicle Media Group, where he responsible for all local print and digital sales activities for the largest daily newspaper in Texas.  During his time in Houston, Sam guided the transition from a print-focused media company into a digitally savvy multimedia sales organization.  Brown led the Chronicle’s digital sales initiatives, developed local retail solutions and spearheaded the expansion and digital evolution of La Voz, Houston’s largest Hispanic publication, growing La Voz from 15,000 weekly copies to more than 300,000.

Previously, Brown founded the Global Health Marketing Group, specializing in brand development; and Icon Lifestyle Marketing, a boutique marketing agency in Manhattan.  He served as vice president of programming partnerships at ShopNBC Television Network, and has held key sales and marketing positions with CMT, FX Networks, Ogilvy & Mather and Urban Box Office Networks.

An industry expert, Brown has spoken on sales, digital strategy, hyper-local marketing solutions and brand development at conferences in North and South America.  A native of Washington D.C., he received a B.S. in Producing for the Electronic Media from Syracuse University.  He is married with two children.

“We are thrilled that Sam is coming on to lead the Advertising division,” said MHMC President and Publisher Alexandra Villoch.  “As we look forward to executing our key strategies, he will help position our Advertising team and our company for success, now and in the future.”

In his new role, Brown will lead a 110-person Advertising division for the company’s two flagship news organizations, the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald.  He will be responsible for the sales efforts of the company’s wide array of products and services; including print, digital, direct/target marketing, niche publications and audience extension partnerships, among others.  He will focus on growing the advertising client base and furthering local and national sales initiatives.  Brown will report to Alexandra Villoch.

“I’m excited to be joining the Miami Herald Media Company and becoming part of their award-winning team,” said Brown.  “Miami is the most dynamic city in the country, and the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald have a long history of serving the community through world-class journalism and innovative advertising solutions.  Our audience is larger and more engaged than ever before, and I look forward to working with the sales team to find new and effective ways to connect our audience with local marketers.”
