Shooting at Fort Lauderdale Aiport, 1 in custody, 5 dead

MIAMI, FLORIDA — Just after 1pm on Friday, January 6th, U.S. media is reported that at least three people died after a shooting in the baggage claim area of Terminal 2 at  Fort Lauderdale International Airport.  Reports were that nine people were shot.

Authorities said someone opened fire around 1 p.m. Delta and Air Canada Flights were immediately affected by the incident. 1 person was in custody.

Federal Aviation Administration officials said the south side of the airport was operating but not the north side – where the incident happened.

3:30pm press conference: Five confirmed dead, and eight injured.

All services were suspended at all terminals of the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
