Born in Nassau to Spanish Wells native Desiree Newbold Messier, oldest daughter of Philip (Pool) Newbold; and Canadian / Bahamian father Michael Messier, Lily Messier grew up in Spanish Wells until she was 10. She played baseball with the Divers Team from 2008-2010, and continued playing baseball when her family moved to Belleville Ontario Canada August 2010. There she played with the Belleville Bucks from 2011-2013.

"Lily took to everything cold and snow," said her mother Desiree. "She picked up skiing like she was born to it, and the same with ice skating." Lily accelerated in skating when she decided to play hockey in 2012 under skills and drills with Chris Longo, former NHL player. She joined the Stirling Boys House League Bantam hockey team in 2013 and played for 2 years.

Lily attended Foxboro Elementary School from 2010-2013, graduating and moving on to Centennial Secondary School from 2013-2015 where she played high school hockey for 2 years. Here she thrived in sports being named athlete of the month in 2014 for hockey. She also played rugby on the junior girls team.

In the 2015/2016 school year Lily transferred to St Theresa Catholic Secondary to attend the hockey program under Jackie Jarell, a former Team Canada world champion hockey player.

Her last season in the Belleville Bearcats House League 2014/2015 season Lily decided to try the goalkeeping position, where she was coached by Kira Hurley. Just two months into being a goalie, the floorball coach Todd Crawford (team Canada U19 head coach) saw her in action and asked Lily if she would try net for Floorball. She started playing floorball in February 2014 at Moira Secondary School.

Lily next made the Bearcats Midget BB team 7 months into being a goalie in the 2015/2016 season.

At the Toronto Canada Cup in May 2015, she won the goaltender award in the women's division beating out seasoned goalies, after only netting in floorball for 4 months.

In May, 2016, Lily was selected for the U19 Team Canada Floorball and played in the World Floorball Championships which were held in early May in Belleville Ontario.

How'd she do? Well, Team Canada won every game until the final, losing by only one point to Germany, and were awarded the silver.

Lily says her sights are now set for the Czech Republic in 2018 for the next U19 World Championships and possibly the Women's Team in the future as well.

There's plans for her to attend the women's Floorball Camp in August if all goes well.

Lily thinks floorball is a perfect sport for The Bahamas and would like to see it there, because it's a great sport and the player only needs a stick, and running shoes (sneakers). The sport is growing rapidly and  the IFF is hoping floorball makes its debut in the 2024 Olympics.
