Toronto - H.E. Dr. Calsey Johnson was Patron of a Private Reception honouring a young Bahamian Filmmaker, Mr. Kareem Mortimer and Bahamian Films during the Toronto International Film Festival. This event, held on Thursday, 11 September 2014, not only celebrated the work of Kareem Mortimer but also those of emerging Bahamian artists and strengthened the ties between the filmmaking community in The Bahamas and Canada.

In attendance were a number of producers and filmmakers as well as Bahamians living in Canada and provided a great opportunity for Canadians and Bahamians to learn more about investment potentials in the filmmaking industry in The Bahamas.

In his welcoming remarks, High Commissioner Johnson expressed his pleasure in being a part of an event honouring members of his former trade as he used to a Broadcaster. He stated that he was particularly impressed by Mr. Mortimer's work namely Children of God, Passage and Cargo. He was excited to see Mr. Mortimer win the African Movie Academy Award for his short film Passage, which is the first time a Bahamian director has been honoured with such a distinction

High Commissioner encouraged investors in the filmmaking industry to consider The Bahamas noting that The Bahamas has experienced crews, great producers and some fantastic storytellers.
