On December 6, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Stephanie Bowers and Minister of National Security The Honorable Marvin Dames participated in the official handover ceremony of more than $430,000 in equipment and gear to the Royal Bahamas Police Force (RBPF) at the Police College. The donation was made possible through the U.S. Department of State’s International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) Section. The donation includes 293 ballistic vests, plates, uniforms; a high-powered Leica Macroscope; Police College training equipment; and Safe boat Maintenance Equipment to various units in the RBPF. In her remarks, Chargé Bowers highlighted that the gesture demonstrates the close partnership between the U.S. Embassy and the Bahamian government, particularly the Ministry of National Security and the RBPF. “This donation centers on two of my priority areas - training and protection. In my role at the Embassy, there is nothing more important to me than the safety and security of my team. Every day, U.S. law enforcement personnel operate alongside their Bahamian colleagues in our mutual fight against the transnational criminal organizations operating between our two countries.”
Chargé Bowers also highlighted bolstered support for OPBAT “to maintain the previously donated Safe boat Interceptors, we are providing maintenance equipment to ensure the top performance of these vessels used by the Marine Support Services Unit. The Marine Unit serves as our close counterpart under Operation Bahamas, Turks and Caicos, or OPBAT as it is better known.” The donation further solidifies the close partnership between the U.S. Embassy and the Bahamian government, particularly the Ministry of National Security and the RBPF. Chargé Bowers pledged that the U.S. Mission to The Bahamas looks forward to continue working with the Ministry of National Security to substantially reduce illicit trafficking, increase public safety and security, and strengthen the important relationship between The Bahamas and the United States.
