International Women's Day (IWD) is marked on March 8th every year. It is a major day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women. Started as a Socialist political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries (primarily Russia and the countries of former Soviet bloc).

The political and human rights theme as designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.

The National Congress of Trade Unions (NCTUB) march and rally will be held in The Bahamas on Sunday, March 7, 2010 beginning at Windsor Park at 3 pm and ending at Rawson Square. Persons are asked to wear their union/organization shirts and bring their banners.
 
Five outstanding women who have served in the trade union movement (TUM) and honourees from the various affiliates will be honoured on Monday, March 8th at 7:00 pm at Bahamas Union of Teacher's Walker's Hall, on Bethel Avenue.
