Green Embassy celebrates the earth’s mystical rain forests and the treasures that they hold with a new haute couture collection for spring 2016 filled with dazzling romantic dresses in a lush palette of crimson, cream, purple and yellow.

It has been a year since I last interviewed Australian fashion designer artist, Zuhal Kuvan-Mills at Vancouver Fashion Week, where I first discovered her exquisite couture collection that is both luxurious and earth friendly.

Titled, Silent Rainforest this collection is visually stunning. Several of the outfits have high collars taking us back to the classic Victorian era, while the fabrics are delicate with elegant lines as they caress a women’s body.

Emulating raindrops of the forest with the use of Swarovski crystals, beads and glass, these dresses are all about glamorous style.

Green Embassy uses organic Peace / Eri silk sourced from the Nuapatna village in Odisha State, India where the harvesting process does not harm the moths. Rather, their cocoons are collected after the moths have emerged and flown away.

Tropical rainforest flora provides the color inspiration to Zuhal Kuvan-Mills, as she used the natural colors of the orchid, hibiscus, bougainvillea, frangipanis, purple carrot, pomegranate and red cabbage to hand print her fabrics.

On the runway at Vancouver Fashion Week, Green Embassy showcased over 50 pieces from slip dresses for the beach, evening dresses for the gala, to wedding gowns. In addition, Kuvan-Mills has expanded her line with yoga outfits, men’s accessories and children's clothing.

One gown on the runway was slightly burned, symbolizing the destruction of the rainforest, and reflecting the designer’s concern for the preservation for one of the world’s most sacred places.

Green Embassy’s collection embodies Zuhal Kuvan-Mills desire to create couture wearable art while conveying a message that our earth needs protecting, demonstrating to us that fashion can be glamorous, ethical and earth friendly.  (Photos: theshedstudios.com)
