As the new year begins for our nation, Bahamians everywhere has encounter, new taxes on their families by the Government, these taxes in most cases has been pass down through the merchants who have taken the position to add profits to their inventory along with the new taxes.

This position, that the government and merchants have taken, has place a huge burden on the average working families, and has made it difficult for families to pay rent, pay their Mortgage, buy food, or take care their families efficiently.

Everything in the Bahamas has increased, and is expected to be paid by the average Bahamian family. Which brings Families for Justice (FFJ) to this point. Taxes have gone up, The profits of the corporate Citizens of gone up, but no pay increases that has materialize for the average working Families on their pay checks.

Minimum wage has been reported to be at $210.00 per week and is expected to increased to $225.00 per week . The issue that our Organization seeks to address regarding the average corporate citizen. To many from the Corporate community is not in compliance with the Minimum wage according to the laws of this country. Many Bahamians has been paid $130.00 up to $175.00 per week and not the minimum wage payment that is required. This is wrong and is a violation of the laws of the Bahamas.

The government has protected there interest in regards to Value Add Tax which we all know as [ V.A.T. ] the corporate citizens has made a business decision to protect its interest, and we believe it is time for every working citizen to demand for the protection for Minimum wage to be paid by every employer across the Bahamas.

The Families for Justice Group has taken the position to join with all average working families to petition the government to set up a task force through the labor department to assure that the minimum wage be enforce according to the laws of the Bahamas for every citizen.

The average minimum wage, that is expected to be paid by the corporate citizen, per hour is an average of $5.25 per hour or $42.00 per day on a 40 hour work week anything less than these rates is injustice.
