Bahamas Education on School Openings and Closures

(Sept. 1, 2019) Nassau, Bahamas - The Minister of Education has announced the following with respect to the opening of schools throughout The Bahamas:

Schools in the islands of Cat Island, San Salvador, Rum Cay, Exuma, Long Island, Mayaguana, Ackiins, Crooked Island and Inagua will open for students on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 9 a.m. School administrators, teachers and support staff posted at these schools are to report to work tomorrow (Monday, Sept. 2) at their regular times as they will prepare for the return of students on Wednesday.

As the islands of New Providence, Eleuthera, Andros, Abaco & Surrounding Cays, Grand Bahama, Bimini and the Berry Islands are still under hurricane warnings, schools on these islands shall remain closed until further notice. The public is advised to continue to follow the local media (including the Ministry of Education website and Facebook page) for updates regarding opening of schools.
