Cable Bahamas awarded second mobile licence

Nassau, Bahamas - The Government of The Bahamas has formally announced the award of the second mobile license to Cable Bahamas (CBL). This announcement was made by Prime Minister Perry Gladstone Christie in his budget speech in Parliament. During the speech, he gave instruction to the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority (URCA) to proceed with the license award. This historic decision is considered monumental for both CBL and the Bahamian people.
  
The bid process has been extensive and thorough, including an in-depth financial and technical assessment of the company and its capabilities. CBL says it is proud and excited to quickly move forward to providing the world-class mobile services consumers in The Bahamas have been calling for.
 
The formal announcement follows the completion of outstanding license conditions including the commitment to have a separate entity set-up to run the license. This "NewCo" will be 49 per cent owned by CBL and 51 per cent owned by "HoldingCo" -- both entities will be 100 per cent Bahamian owned.
 
CBL President Anthony Butler stated, "This is an historic and pivotal day for The Bahamas and we are proud to have won the license. But, it is the Bahamian people that are the real winners. Now, the hard work begins and our focus will be to fulfill our promise to the Bahamian community to provide the best mobile services and applications in the world!"

Throughout the bidding process, CBL has presented the company's capabilities as financially strong, technologically advanced and with the experience and customer service excellence to run a telecommunications service. By putting the customer first, CBL expects to offer Bahamians the best communications services possible.

Starting today, CBL has commenced the timeline to providing service. This involves intensive work from a network, operations and marketing perspective. The company intends to keep the Bahamian public informed at all stages along the way and a full timeline and plan will be communicated shortly.
 
As CBL Vice Chairman Franklyn Butler stated, "This is a far-reaching moment for us Bahamians, and for us as a company, as a business, as a people. I have every confidence we will deliver the same focus, commitment and success seen to date in CBL as we bring mobile cellular services to the people of the Bahamas."
