The Cat Island Sister City Association is hosting a delegation from the Village of Richton Park, Illinois, over the next four days to conclude talks on the formation of a Sister City relationship.

The seven-member delegation trip come on the heels of a similar visit a group from Cat Island paid to the people of Richton Park in September 2014 that was facilitated by Immerse Bahamas, a destination management company, which set the wheels in motion.

Heading the Richton group is Mayor Richard Reinbold and his wife, Tammy, who will be given a brief tour of New Providence before flying in to Cat Island where they will spend the majority of their visit becoming familiar with the people and its cultural and educational makeup.

Members of the Richton delegation began arriving in New Providence on Sunday while the others, who were delayed as a result of a snow storm, are expected on Monday.

Cat Island Administrator Jackson McIntosh was among the group who travelled to Chicago back in September described the visit as a fruitful one and was impressed with the hospitality the people of Richton extended.

Eager about the plans that are afoot for the mayor and his group, Administrator McIntosh said the people of Cat Island are greatly anticipating their arrival.

“We’re excited to bring ever closer the signing of an agreement cementing the pending Sister City partnership. Immerse Bahamas, the Sister City Committee of Cat Island and the District Council are feverishly engaged in final preparations for the historic event,” McIntosh said.

“The Chicago group, whilst on the Island, will meet with local leaders in government, business, civil society and American counterparts residing on Cat Island. They will also visit schools and a few historical sites as well as engage in a fishing excursion and other planned recreational events.”

After several months of planning and liaising with the Cat Island Sister Cities Association and the Richton Park group, Immerse Bahamas President and CEO Ginger Moxey is pleased to see the hard work coming to fruition.

“We are a partner of Sister Cities International and it is so good and rewarding to realize how the relationship between the people of Cat Island and Richton has fostered as it will prove to be mutually beneficial to them both,” said Moxey.

The visit will end with a dinner with Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis, who is the Member of Parliament for Cat Island.
