PRESS RELEASE by The Hon. Perry G. Christie PC, MP,
Prime Minister

of  The Commonwealth of The Bahamas

I was saddened to learn of the passing of the internationally acclaimed Bahamian actor, Calvin Lockhart.

Although his acting career was of relatively short duration, Calvin’s cinematic charisma and talents won him high praise from critics and audiences alike all around the world, especially in the late 1960’s, and 70’s.   In so doing, great credit was reflected on The Bahamas.  In this regard, Calvin followed in the footsteps of Bahamian trailblazers like Bert Williams and Sir Sydney Poitier.

Whether at the height of his fame or in later years when he was more reclusive, Calvin Lockhart was a proud and committed Bahamian.  He believed in The Bahamas and held a deep and abiding love for all its people.

On behalf of the Government and people of The Bahamas and on my own behalf, I extend condolences to the entire family of this important Bahamian personality who touched the lives of so many people, not only here in his homeland, but all around the world.
