Enrolment for NHI Bahamas to start April 24th
By National Health Insurance (NHI)
Apr 14, 2017 - 12:23:13 AM

Nassau, The Bahamas – Following the success of round one of provider registration, the NHI Secretariat is launching phase two of NHI Bahamas – enrolment – on April 24, 2017. During the enrolment phase, Bahamians will select their Primary Care physician, including family medicine practitioners, general practitioners, internists, OBGYNs and pediatricians. Enrolment will be followed shortly after by phase three of NHI Bahamas – Primary Care services.

Starting April 24th, Bahamians will get to choose their doctor who they will receive services from once the Primary Care phase of coverage begins. We want persons to enrol early so they can start receiving the benefits NHI Bahamas will bring, especially to those who cannot afford health care.

- Peter Deveaux-Isaacs, Permanent Secretary, National Health Insurance Secretariat
In order to enrol, persons will need the following:

   1. NIB Smart Card
   2. Be a Bahamian citizen or legal resident
   3. Proof of residency in The Bahamas for the last 6 months (e.g. utility bill in your name, lease agreement, job letter, etc.)

For persons who have private insurance, you will also need to provide your insurance policy group and Member ID number; however, persons who do not have private insurance can still enrol for NHI Bahamas.

The Secretariat strongly urges Bahamians to enrol in NHI Bahamas online through www.nhibahamas.gov.bs. However, persons will also have the option to enrol in-person at their nearest enrolment location starting April 24th.

The enrolment form will be available as of April 24th on the NHI Bahamas website and at NHI Bahamas enrolment locations, which will soon be announced. The form will ask persons to fill out their personal information and select their doctor from a list of registered Primary Care providers.

Enrolment forms will be processed and persons can expect to receive either confirmation of their enrolment and Primary Care provider selection within 10 business days, or be contacted to provide additional documentation.

Confirmation notices will also provide the date when each person can access Primary Care services under NHI Bahamas at no cost at point of care.

Persons are encouraged to visit www.nhibahamas.gov.bs to ensure they are familiar with the enrolment process.
