International Investors Highlighted in Market and in Featured Panel

Nassau, Bahamas —The second annual HVS Caribbean Hotel Investment Conference & Operations Summit (CHICOS) conference has kicked off this week at the Atlantis resort with global investors flying in for this year’s focus on international investment in the region.

On the heels of tremendously positive feedback from last year’s inaugural investment conference - and the anticipated return of the key industry players and delegates - Parris Jordan, managing director for HVS Caribbean, says the summit will be “even more specific and practical for our attendees.”

“The market is rebounding strongly since the global downturn, as is evident if you look at recent trends in occupancy and revPAR,” Jordan noted, before adding that “to advance the entire region, surpass a recovery, and bring significant growth to the Caribbean, we need to promote accessibility and interest from foreign investors.”

HVS CHICOS will be held at the Atlantis Resort this November 8th and 9th and will welcome an impressive global lineup of speakers and panelists, bringing a truly international perspective to investing in the Caribbean market.

“This is a great opportunity for the Government of The Bahamas and local investors to have access to such a large group of international investors and industry executives,” said attendee Andy Ingraham.

HVS CHICOS 2012 will welcome ministers of tourism, finance, and investment from several Caribbean governments, and has included in its agenda a featured panel on accessing those coveted international investors who are considering the region as an attractive investment. Those looking for funders, financers, and developers will benefit from hearing a discussion on this vital issue from executives with groups including Och Ziff Real Estate, Solid Rock Advisors, and Dolphin Capital. Bernard Van der Lande, Vice President of Hodges Ward Elliott Hotels, will moderate the panel. Minister of Investment Khaalish Rolle, Minister of Tourism Obie Wilchcombe along with private sector participates Sandy Sands of Baha Mar Resorts and Frank Comito of the Bahamas Hotel Association will participate in a Country Focus panel, ‘The Bahamas Investment Outlook’ which will be moderated by Andy Ingraham, President of National Association of Black Hotel Owners, Operators & Developers, Inc. “NABHOOD”.

Discussions that began last year during CHICOS have continued throughout the year with established Task Forces focusing on particular challenging areas of the Caribbean hospitality market – marketing, airlift, legal issues and training and service. This year attendees will hear these Task Force recommendations and will also have the opportunity to respond and hear other key insiders’ reactions.

“Inspired by the international quality and interest in the region, it seems HVS is accomplishing precisely what we intended – to create an atmosphere where hospitality leaders can cooperate, innovate, and create relationships that strengthen the tourism industry in the entire Caribbean,” adds Jordan.

Registration is available at www.hvschicos.com, where those interested will also find a working list of speakers and a program of events.
