Nassau, Bahamas - Cable Bahamas Ltd (CBL) announced today that John Gomez has been appointed Chief Operations Officer of the company. As COO, Mr Gomez will assume responsibility for the entire CBL operation, including finance, marketing, customer experience, engineering and technology.

"We are proud that, internally, persons with the skills and leadership capability are able to take advantage of opportunities in the company," Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Board's HR Committee Franklyn Butler said. "On behalf of the Board, we wish John every success in his new role".

Mr Gomez, an Eleuthera native, joined the CBL team in 2001 as director of engineering and was promoted to vice president of engineering in 2003, a post he has held since that time. He played a key role in the company's transition to digitalisation and has been instrumental in implementing strategies to help reduce costs, increase revenue, strengthen customer relationships, improve business practices and drive profitable growth.

Asked what his focus will be as he assumes this new position, Mr Gomez said, "My primary focus will be to continue to build a positive corporate culture where we have engaged employees who are motivated and directly involved in the innovation of the company. This is one the crucial factors that drives the results of the organisation.

"Secondly, my attention will be on our physical network," he said. "We already have proven the strength of the company's national and international telecommunications network. Every product and service we deliver depends on the capacity and reliability of our infrastructure. It has been and will continue to be the foundation on which our business is built. It is how we have been and will remain a leader in our industry."

Mr Gomez has over 30 years of professional experience in leadership, management and engineering. He came to CBL from the Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC), where he used his expertise to assist in increasing efficiencies throughout the Eleuthera operations.

"I started my engineering training and background at a young age, in fact, I was one of the youngest managers with BEC in the Family Islands," the COO said. "That early experience helped me prepare and build those skill sets that have proven essential here at CBL, and vital as we go forward into this new era."

Speaking about why the telecommunications provider has decided to appoint its first-ever chief operating officer, Mr Gomez said, "When you look at how the company has developed, it has evolved into a much larger organisation than we were 20 years ago. We are now made up of our core operation here in The Bahamas, our newly added US-based operations, and, of course, our much-anticipated mobile services that are coming on stream. Strong leadership for each of these three business units," Mr Gomez explained, "is fundamental to our continued growth and development."

"Our people are at the heart of our success. We can innovate with technology, we can have lots of great product choices for TV and fast Internet service, and we can have a reliable network. But, a properly motivated, enthusiastic, encouraged and well-trained team is what will determine if we win or lose at the end of the day," Mr Gomez said. "We will continue to invest in training, provide excellent growth and leadership opportunities, and grow our focus on service to our customers. Whenever a customer touches any part of our organisation - in one of our stores, on the phone, or with one of our field service personnel - I want people to be 'wowed' and to realise and understand that we are committed to providing an extraordinary level of service at every point throughout the organisation."

Mr Gomez earned a Master's Degree in business administration (international business) from the University of Miami and has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the Florida Institute of Technology.
