The last official interview with Sir Jack Hayward is scheduled to air this coming Monday on ZNS TV 13.

This important final talk with one of Grand Bahama’s most important businessmen is the latest episode of the programme ‘A Familiar Walk’, with host Mario Newry.

“This most recent edition to the programme’s series has captured intimate and often touching moments with Sir Jack,” said Mr. Newry. “His words of wisdom and memories of Grand Bahama dating back to 1955 makes this programme unique in every way.”

Sir Jack was the honorary chairman and co-owner of the Grand Bahama Port Authority, who championed sports in the Bahamas and the successful development of Grand Bahamas. He was a British and Bahamian Patriot and philanthropist. Although born at Wolverhampton, England, Sir Jack lived for most of his life in the Bahamas.

The interview of Sir Jack and Mario Newry was recorded at Sir Jack’s Grand Bahama office during the birthday celebrations of both men. Mr. Newry was invited to Grand Bahama at the behest of Mrs. Patricia Bloom, Sir Jack’s companion of many years, and Ms. Sarah St. George. They asked that he sit with Sir Jack to record an episode of ‘A Familiar Walk’ for posterity.

This final interview of Sir Jack was made special by the intimate bond between the host and guest. Whenever Sir Jack would travel New Providence for business and leisure engagements, Mr Newry would assist him. He said that he will forever cherish the fond memories of Sir Jack, especially the inside jokes that only they shared.

In this latest episode of the acclaimed TV show, Sir Jack recalls many of his memorable moments as a pillar of the community of Grand Bahama and lauds some of the newest government initiatives on Grand Bahama, including the Ministry for Grand Bahama. Mr. Newry said one things that most stood out in the programme for him was Sir Jack’s response of to the question: “what advice would you give for leading a happy life?”

“Sir Jack’s response was centered on taking time to enjoy the small blessings of life,” said Mr. Newry. “Words cannot fully express the honour I felt knowing that I had recorded and produced the programme only months before the passing of Sir Jack.”

Each Familiar Walk episode is unique not just because they feature a hero or heroine of the Bahamas, but because they hold a special intimate quality. Mr. Newry said the sponsors, who are more like partners, made this latest episode of ‘A Familiar Walk’ an unforgettable last official interview with Sir Jack Hayward.
