The Speech Competition was chaired by Toast Master Mrs. Tiffany Burrell-Roberts and Members of the Bahamas Union of Teacher’s (B.U.T) Nation Builders Toastmasters Club No.1358961.
The theme of the speech competition was; “Labour the Past, the Present and the Future”,
The winner of this year's speech competition was Mr. Ari Braithwaite a sixteen year old student of Queens College High School, he won the a cash prize of $400.00, an individual trophy and the floating trophy for his school; the second place winner was Ms. Gabrielle Collie a seventeen year old student of Jordan Prince Williams High School, she won a cash prize of $300.00 and an individual trophy; the third place finisher was Mr. Rashad Ritchie a seventeen year student of St. Anne's High School, he won a cash prize of $200 and an individual trophy; and the fourth place finisher was Mr. Karl Campbell a fifteen year student of Creative Vision Academy, he won an Alcatel Pop S7 Tablet.
The National Congress of Trade Unions Bahamas was elated to host this event and all of the speeches were well researched, and gave us a clear walk through our past, present and future as a movement. The speeches gave the NCTUB food for thought and insight as to how young people in our society view trade unions. These insights will help the NCTUB to plan, strategize and put into action plans to attract young people to the trade union movement.
The National Congress of Trade Unions Bahamas will make this speech competition an annual event. This event and all subsequent events leading up to Labour Day, Friday, June 5, 2015, are being organized by the Labour Day Planning Committee which is chaired by Brother Roney Armbrister, Trustee of the NCTUB.
