Young entrepreneur and Grand Bahamian, Jessica Hudson came up with the idea for MyBahamasMD while seeking medical treatment for herself.

A new website has hit the internet where the public is invited to rate their experiences with Bahamian physicians.

Creator and CEO of My BahamasMD, Jessica Hudson came up with the idea solely dedicated to rating health professionals in The Bahamas early in 2015 when she was preparing to return to the United States to seek medical treatment.

For work-related, financial and personal reasons Ms. Hudson did not want to proceed with the trip, so she began her pursuit to find a doctor on Grand Bahama who would be able to help her. She contacted a few doctors and also resorted to the best referral system there is, “personal experiences” from anyone willing to share.

"Among those, some were good and others... well we know what many have said about the healthcare received by doctors at our nation’s hospitals," said Hudson who has a bachelors of engineering in Biomedical engineering from the City University of New York, class of 2012. She's also a National Institute of Health Scholar 2008-2012.

"In this pursuit of information I realized that we the Bahamian people were in need of a platform that would allow Bahamians to share their experiences and provide feedback in regards to the quality of healthcare received."

The website, entitled ‘My BahamasMD” was named “My Bahamas” to claim ownership she says.  "It serves as a reminder that this is OUR country and we must be accountable for the changes we could like to implement with our healthcare providers the Medical Doctors (MD). My BahamsMD affords Bahamians with the opportunity to provide their honest and unbiased opinions on medical professionals in both the private and public sectors. The website features doctors (including doctors of chiropractic) as well as dentists who practice throughout The Bahamas.

Hudson confirmed that payment for positive reviews or removal of negative reviews by Doctors will not be accepted to ensure authenticity of the ratings, however, doctors are encouraged to take advantage of this platform by providing articles or blogs pertaining to their specialty as well as advertisements for their practice.

"I sincerely hope that the effect generated by this website will encourage medical professionals to improve the standard of care that is given to their patients, thus increasing the overall quality of healthcare within the nation."
