Nassau, Bahamas - The organizers of the world record-breaking underwater wedding event, In Deep Love Bahamas, have announced that the event will now take place on Thursday, 15th June 2017, surrounded by a week of exciting and entertaining activities for the bridal couples and their guests.

Previously scheduled for February 2017 around Valentine’s Day, the organizers and sponsors recognized that June, a traditional wedding month, also allowed better underwater temperature and visibility.

The launch of the event in May heralded the start of the attempt to break the current Guinness Book of World Record for the largest number of multiple couple weddings held simultaneously underwater, which was established in Thailand with 34 couples making their marital vows. Now the organizers hope to move that record to The Bahamas with its crystal clear waters and reputation as a premier location for destination weddings. In November 2015 The Islands of The Bahamas were named the “Leading Wedding Destination” at the World Travel Awards in Morocco.

Mr. Alfred Collie, Jr., CEO and Founder of In Deep Love (Bahamas) Ltd., states that “the historic event will not only draw global attention to The Bahamas as a leading wedding and touristic destination, but also focus on the value and conservation of the waters for scuba diving and sustainable ecotourism.”

Freda Malcolm, Director of Romance for the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism (BMOT), expressed that “the event is strongly endorsed by the BMOT, and we are excited about the media and personal interest it is receiving from around the world, from the United Kingdom, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Turkey, Canada, the United States of America, to Indonesia, India, Japan, and Australia.” She further stated that “the record-breaking event provides us the opportunity to showcase our unique wedding and honeymoon products to a very important romance market.”

Owen Bethel, President of In Deep Love (Bahamas) Ltd., used the occasion to also announce that “one couple which registers to participate in the event will be selected to have all of their expenses associated with the wedding ceremony, reception, and honeymoon covered by the organizers and sponsors. This special couple is termed as ‘the leaders of the bridal mermaids and mermen’ in what will truly be a memorable week of activities”

Sponsors include the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, Underwater Explorers Society (UNEXSO), Grand Lucayan Resort, Pelican Bay Resort, John Watlings’ Distillery, Exiles Boutique, The Nassau Florist, and Nicole Collie Graphics.
