NASSAU, Bahamas – In
the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Joaquin, PowerSecure
International, Inc. today donated $50,000 to the Red Cross to boost
recovery efforts. The company has also deployed an expert utility
assessment and recovery team to the Bahamas to provide advisory support
for the restoration of electric power on the islands that suffered
extensive damage.
“PowerSecure
has made a long-term commitment to the people of the Bahamas, and this
donation to the Red Cross is an early way to turn that commitment into
action,” said Ronnie Brannen, PowerSecure’s Chief Revenue Officer, who
is in the Bahamas assisting with the recovery efforts.
“While
our long-term plan is to provide more reliable energy infrastructure to
the Bahamian people at a lower cost, our top priority now is helping
those most affected by this disaster,” Brannen added.
The
Bahamas Electricity Corporation (BEC) is leading the effort to restore
power to the affected islands, with the PowerSecure team providing
expert counsel and technical assistance in support of BEC’s activities.
“We
are so grateful for this tremendous show of support from PowerSecure.
This generous donation will help us secure the kind of emergency
provisions most needed to help the Bahamian people in their time of
profound need,” said Caroline Turnquest of the Bahamas Red Cross. “Those
affected by the hurricane will have many needs for a long time to come,
and the contributions of partners like PowerSecure will make a
tremendous difference in their lives.”
PowerSecure’s
utility assessment and recovery team is travelling throughout the
Bahamas assessing the damage and providing strategic recommendations.
PowerSecure’s
team has successfully advised on and implemented utility recovery
efforts following numerous hurricanes and storms in the United States
and will be able to apply that experience to assist BEC. Although
PowerSecure is not yet contractually engaged to assume management
responsibilities of the utility, the company is volunteering its
expertise in order to help improve conditions as quickly as possible.
“Natural
disasters and human suffering don’t wait for a contract start date –
our team is on the ground partnering with BEC to help in whatever ways
we can,” said Brannen.
