Preliminary Results of COBUS Student and Faculty National Issues Survey

Nassau, Bahamas - COBUS conducted a survey on National Issues to allow students and faculty at the college to participate more actively in the National Conversation.  

The Purpose of the survey is to gather the collective opinions of students and faculty so that the College of the Bahamas as the Leading Academic institution in the country can engage in the National Dialogue in a significant way.  

I am reminded of the Election of President Barack Obama, when he cited as one of his greatest accomplishments that surveys where done in college campuses throughout the USA and they reported that a strong majority of Students and Professors supported his movement for change. We realize that if we gather our opinions as student/faculty at the College that is the kind of effect on your country that you can have.  

It is also important to note that as representatives of our student body, and as students ourselves that we give our constituency the ability to shape the direction in which the country is heading.  

We have released 2500 Surveys on National Issues to the Student and faculty and the preliminary results collected thus far are as follows:  

1. 73% of COB students and faculty believes that the opposition needs new leadership and if they were a delegate at the up coming convention would vote for new leadership.
2. 11% of COB students and faculty do not believes that the opposition needs new leadership and if they were a delegate at the up coming convention would vote for new leadership.
3. 63% of COB students and faculty do not support the Bahamas’ level of economic reliance on tourism.
4. 20% of COB students and faculty support the Bahamas’ level of economic reliance on tourism.
5. 70% of COB students and faculty believe that new leadership is needed in the government.
6. 43% of COB students and faculty are in support of the gaming law reform to include Bahamian ownership.
7. 36% of COB students and faculty are not in support of the gaming law reform to include Bahamian ownership.
8. 13% of COB students and faculty do not believe that new leadership is needed in the government.
9. 82% of COB students and faculty would vote for a third party if they same legitimate.
10. 77% of COB students and faculty believes that the government needs to try a new approach to immigration.
11. 55% of COB students and faculty don’t believe that the police and government are doing an adequate job at addressing the crime problem.
12. 31% of COB students and faculty believe that the police and government are doing an adequate job at addressing the crime problem.
13. 55% of COB students and faculty are not satisfied with their MP’s representation and performance in the constituency.
14. 28% of COB students and faculty are satisfied with their MP’s representation and performance in the constituency.

These are the preliminary results of the survey of 2500 students and faculty we will release the final result as soon as possible, so that the nation can understand how college students and faculty feel about these national issues.
