Coral Harbour Base, (RBDF): Ongoing recovery efforts for a missing boater by the Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues after the American registered vessel ran aground a mile and a half of South Bimini on Friday past with 4 American crew members.

Altogether, three key agencies (The Royal Bahamas Defence and Police Forces, and the United States Coast Guard), have been involved in search and rescue, as well as recovery efforts for the missing boater.

After receiving reports that a vessel was disabled south of Bimini, HMBS L.L. SMITH was dispatched to the area to investigate. A 34-ft vessel “Stand Firm” with 1 male and 1 female aboard were suffering from minor injuries and transported to the local hospital in north Bimini. The lifeless body of one of the crew members was later found on Turtle Cay, south of south Bimini.

Captain Whitfield Neely, RBDF Commanding Officer for NORTHERN COMMAND says that RBDF assets are in the surrounding area and cays searching for the remaining missing boater, who was presumably thrown from the vessel.

The Royal Bahamas Defence remains committed to protecting the territorial integrity of the Commonwealth of the The Bahamas.
