Coral Harbour Base, (RBDF) - Senior representatives of the Red Cross Society paid a courtesy call on Commander Defence Force, Commodore Tellis Bethel, on May 10, 2018 at Defence Headquarters.

Mrs. Caroline Turnquest, Director General of the Bahamas Red Cross Society along with Ms. Clothilde Verzier, Delegate for the CARICOM States of the International Committee of the Red Cross paid a courtesy call on Commodore Bethel at Coral Harbour Base.

Also in attendance at the meeting were several members of the Defence Force’s Senior Command.  Discussions during the meeting included plans to provide specialized training for members of the military on matters related to migrant issues.
The Defence Force provides assistance to the Red Cross in conjunction with The Bahamas National Emergency Management Agency during times of disaster.  Last year, the Defence Force assisted the Red Cross with the delivery of hurricane relief supplies to the Commonwealth of Dominica aboard the Force's landing craft, HMBS Lawrence Major.

Earlier this year, Defence Force Marines assisted the Bahamas Red Cross Society with operating shelters for persons who lost their homes following the outbreak of fires on two separate occasions in North Abaco.
