Nassau, Bahamas - On Thursday February 27th 2014, Hon. Ryan Pinder, Minister of Financial Services presented to the Revenue Law Class of University of West Indies LLB Program and Eugene Dupuch Law School “Development of Tax Policy in General and in the Bahamas."

Minister Pinder discussed with the students and faculty present the general principles of taxation, development of tax policy and the need for tax reform in The Bahamas. Sharing with the students his insight as a cabinet minister and a tax lawyer Minister Pinder addressed the implementation of Value Added Tax (VAT) and the proposed benefits.

In closing, Minister expressed "Tax reform is a necessary endeavor for the Bahamas, necessary to reverse the trend of fiscal un-sustainability and to ensure we are in good stead as a government providing for our people.  We operate under a tax system that has not evolved to reflect the state of the international economic environment, nor have we reformed our tax system to position the country for global economic expansion, such as participating effectively in international trade. Tax reform is not easy, but tax reform is necessary. "
